Scottish Golf Trip On A Bicycle

  1. General Itinerary

    1. Day 0. Fly to Edinburgh from the East Coast, USA. Arrive at EDI early morning.

    2. Day 1. Get to Law Cycles to buy a bike, which is next to North Berwick Golf Club (90 minutes by train from Edinburgh airport to North Berwick, then 10 minute walk to bike shop) - https://www.lawcycles.co.uk/bike-sales 

      1. If you can’t get a bike there, stay in North Berwick until you acquire bikes. I.e. facebook marketplace.

    3. Go play North Berwick that afternoon. 8 minute (0.3 miles) bike ride from Law Cycles. Spend the night in North Berwick. https://www.northberwickgolfclub.com/ 

    4. Day 2. Wake up early in North Berwick. 5.3 mile (31 minute) bike ride to Gullane for a morning round at Gullane No. 1. https://gullanegolfclub.com/ 

    5. Quick lunch at Gullane (maybe a pint), then a 3.7 mile (30 minute) bike ride to Kilspindie for an afternoon round. https://www.kilspindiegolfclub.co.uk/ 

      1. Stay in the town of Aberlady that night, where Kilspindie is.

    6. Day 3. After a good rest, embark on a longer journey to the Old Musselburgh Links. A 9.7 mile (1 hour 2 minute) bike ride. Goal is to play the 9 holes at the Old Musselburgh Golf Links that afternoon. https://musselburgholdcourse.com/ 

      1. Spend the night in Musselburgh

    7. Day 4. After a restful afternoon/evening in Musselburgh, wake up and begin the bike ride back into Edinburgh proper. A 7.7 mile (47 minute) uphill bike ride to Braid Hills Golf Centre right outside of the very very fun and beer filled city of Edinburgh. https://www.edinburghleisure.co.uk/venues/braid-hills-golf-course/ 

    8. After Braid Hills we cruise for 4 miles (27 minutes) into the center of Edinburgh. Spend the night in Edinburgh, preferably a hostel. https://www.castlerockedinburgh.com/ 

    9. Day 5. No golf today. Aim for a 22 mile (~2 hour) trek to the town of Burntisland which will cross the Forth Road Bridge onto the other side of the Firth of Forth.

      1. Spend the night in Burntisland.

    10. Day 6. Rested and feeling better you’ll hop over to Burntisland Golf Club for a morning round. https://burntislandgolfhouseclub.co.uk/ 

    11. After a quick lunch at Burntisland grind out a 15 mile (1 hour 27 minute) ride to Leven Links for an all time twilight round. https://www.leven-links.com/ 

      1. Spend the night in Leven

    12. Day 7. An all time day in store here. Early rise to race over for a morning round at Elie Golf House Club. 9.3 mile (53 minute) ride. https://www.golfhouseclub.co.uk/ 

    13. After Eile, ride for 5.5 miles (31 minutes) for a relaxing twilight 9 at Anstruther Golf Club. https://www.anstruthergolf.co.uk/ 

      1. Spend the night in the town of Anstruther

    14. Day 8. The town of Anstruther has plenty of waterfront pubs and taverns, so I decided that this is truly a rest and relax day. No golf. No bike. - https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/anstruther/anstruther/index.html 

    15. Day 9. Hopefully well rested, rise early again for a 6.2 mile (42 minute) ride to Crail Golfing Society. https://crailgolfingsociety.co.uk/ 

      1. Spend the night in Crail. Take the rest when you can get it.

    16. Day 10. Off to Kingsbarns! A nice 3.3 mile (18 minute) ride to Kingsbarns from Crail sounds so lovely. https://www.kingsbarns.com/ 

    17. After this round you’ll make the last bike ride. 8 miles (43 minutes) to the Home of Golf, St. Andrews. 

      1. Spend the night in St. Andrews.

    18. Day 11. Wake up in St. Andrews and play the Old Course. What a way to end the trip. https://www.standrews.com/homepage 

      1. Obviously be flexible on when tee time is. Have the whole day to figure it out or play one of the other St. Andrews courses if you have to.

      2. Spend the night in St. Andrews.

    19. Day 12. Find your way back to Edinburgh airport on any form of transportation and fly home.
